CALENDAR DESIGN
Design for a trail running organisation

THE CLIENT
Run Wild Vancouver is an organisation created by trail runners that raises funds for projects and organisations affecting the outdoors and the sport of trail running on Vancouver’s North Shore [North and West Vancouver, BC, Canada]. North Shore Search and Rescue is one of the key organisations they support.
THE CHALLENGE
RWV wanted to increase their presence in Vancouver’s outdoor community and help raise funds for North Shore Search and Rescue. They needed a fundraising item that would accomplish this, and opted to create a calendar that featured local trail running photography. The calendar needed to not only function as a showcase for incredible trail imagery, but integrate advertising space for local trail organisations and stores on each page. The calendar would be be sold at Mountain Equipment Co-op [MEC], and various outdoor-related retail stores across Vancouver.

THE SOLUTION
I designed the calendar with the intent of emphasising its incredible photos and creating a beautiful object people would want to display in their homes. To support this, I used simple—and sometimes translucent—typography. I designed the calendar’s digital file in a modular way so that new photos could easily be inserted, and dates could easily be updated for future fundraisers. The result was a stunning calendar that not only sold out, but helped raise thousands of dollars for North Shore Search and Rescue…all while increasing visibility for Run Wild Vancouver.
