RUN WILD VANCOUVER LOGO

Design for a trail running organisation

THE CLIENT

Run Wild Vancouver is an organisation created by trail runners that raises funds for projects and organisation affecting the outdoors and the sport of trail running. North Shore Search and Rescue is one of the key organisations they support.

THE CHALLENGE

RWV was growing, and needed a unifying logo that could be used online, at events, and in sponsor packages. The organisation was looking for a logo that encompassed the three iconic mountains on Vancouver’s North Shore [Cypress, Grouse and Mt. Seymour], but requested a different take on the stereotypical outdoor sport logo abundant in the Pacific Northwest.

THE SOLUTION

The focus of my design was to communicate the connection between the North Shore mountains and all trail users [runners, bikers and hikers]. To support this concept, I designed three simplified mountain shapes that overlapped in close proximity. Instead of using typical outdoorsy colours like saturated greens, reds and blues, I used various pastels. My rationale for this was to denote the spectrum of trail users on the North Shore, and the interplay and connection we all have to our environments. This unique palette helped differentiate Run Wild as a unique and specialised organisation and appeared in video, print and online.
